Frequently Asked Questions

Hypnosis is not some weird, strange state I put you into.   It’s a perfectly natural, normal state of mind that you are already utilising every single day, many times a day.    For instance, when we feel we have done something on ‘auto-pilot’ that’s a hypnotic state.  I wonder if you’ve ever arrived somewhere and can’t remember driving there!  Or have you been so lost in a book you can imagine the faces and voices of the characters.  Yet, at these times you are still in control and can take action immediately if necessary; if a person stepped out in front of you or your doorbell rings, for instance.  All hypnosis is self-hypnosis and in therapy sessions, it’s always your choice – and you remain in control at all times.

When we find history repeating itself in our lives, it is the unconscious part of our mind that is responsible.  We think we are consciously in control of what we are doing, but it is perhaps uncomfortable to realise that according to research, our unconscious mind is responsible for ninety per cent of our behaviour in any given day.  It chooses the information we base our responses on and often directs that response.

This means we can remain trapped by unwanted behaviours and emotions – even though we say we don’t want them.  We may not even be aware of the limiting beliefs that are holding us back, or locking us in a destructive state, as they were formed in our unconscious mind at a young age.

When you’re doing this, you’ve effectively been emotionally hijacked by your unconscious.  In a way, a hypnotherapists job is to de-hypnotise you so you can stay emotionally in control.  Hypnotherapy stimulates your unconscious to find it’s own solutions to solve your problems by utilising our natural state of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes.

Through my experience and training I can do this in many ways.  I’m able to create each session individually by drawing elements from a number of different disciplines and blending them together.

The key to real, lasting change is at the unconscious level.  The hypnotherapist is only the catalyst for that change within your unconscious, meaning you make the changes that are right for you, in your own way.

It is a collaboration.  I don’t make you change, you find your own solutions through a considered process and tailored techniques that allow you to do that.

At your first appointment we’ll discover more about how your issue affects you now and identify the areas we need to target.  I also begin to explain how and why your mind creates your issue and how change is always possible.  Most clients find this already helps them start feeling more in control.

At subsequent sessions we begin to unravel the underlying root causes.

By finding the root cause and working to release negative experiences you can let go of the past and we utilise the powerful resources within the unconscious to establish emotional resilience and calm control.

I also teach you tools that help you feel calmer and more in control in the present.  And using your creative imagination and visualisation we identify a better future, giving your unconscious a solution focused route map to how you want to be.

By using conversational hypnosis and specific hypnotic language patterns, I can speed up and cement the changes made.

The key to real lasting change is at the unconscious level and unlike other talking therapies, my  approach targets your issue from all angles, past, present and future.  This means you have the optimal possibility of achieving the change you desire.

This is why hypnotherapy has the potential to be so effective, often surprisingly quick.

I appreciate it can be a big step, which means I always work at the pace that’s right for you.  I work in specific ways to help you feel comfortable at every stage and you won’t have to go into lots of detail of past events, unless you feel you’d like to.

Each client is individual and what they need is unique to them and their issue.  I approach every client with the mindset that we will resolve their issue in the quickest time possible, whilst still addressing their individual needs.

With some more complicated emotional issues we may need longer, which we’ll discuss at the onset.  I always work at a pace that is right for you, because therapy simply isn’t effective if it’s rushed and pressured.

I suggest an initial commitment of three sessions, as this allows you to experience the power and possibilities of hypnotherapy.  I find that most clients experience considerable change by appointment 3 and therefore wish to continue.

Hypnotherapy costs £75 for a 60 to 90 minute session.  I offer an initial programme of 3 sessions for £210 if booked and paid for upfront (totalling a discount of £15).  Thereafter, sessions are charged at the full cost of £75.

Sessions may be weekly or bi-weekly initially, potentially moving to monthly, depending on progress.

Relaxation & Coaching without deeper therapy is £65 per session for 60 minutes. Once you’ve completed your hypnotherapy treatment plan, some clients like to enjoy the continued benefits of personalised, guided hypnosis and coaching on a monthly or bi-monthly basis.  Clients find this really helps them to keep on track, and helps maintain focus and motivation.
